Creating Positive Change

Are you championing a new initiative in your organization? Would you like to make personal changes that stick? This month in EntrepreNerds we’ll empower you to Create Positive Change by discussing:

  1. Tools for changing habits

  2. How perceptions impact behavior

  3. Ways to leverage social networks for change

Date: Friday September 19th 2014 Noon – 1:30pm Location: Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce Cost: Members $25 / Non-Members $35 (includes catered lunch)

How It Works:

We recommend a few books and videos on the topic. Participants choose one book, article or video to review before the discussion that’s relevant to the topic. We’ll provide 4 pre discussion questions for you to ponder in preparation which will also help focus the conversation.

Recommended Readings and Gists:

The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg

The GIST – In this entertaining book, Duhigg provides a simple yet well educated overview of how habits are formed and why they can’t be broken. Fear not, habits can be changed. The “habit loop” is a great tool for better understanding how to change habits on an individual level. But he doesn’t stop there! Duhigg goes on to show readers how to change people’s habits on an organizational and societal level as well. This book is a must read for any change agent that wants their efforts to be successful.

Subliminal: How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behavior by Charles Mlodinow

The GIST – In this well researched book, Mlodinow provides an interdisciplinary

understanding of the role our subconscious mind plays in perceiving the world, decision-making and our interactions with others. He shares both personal anecdotes as well as citing primary research to demonstrate the ways in which our subconscious influences both perception and behavior. The insights in this reading prove valuable for the leader that seeks to deepen their self-awareness while also developing a better understanding of the human condition within which we all most work.
