About the Event
This live, interactive virtual training gives librarians the tools, language, camaraderie and confidence to assert boundaries professionally and effectively, without guilt or second-guessing. You’ll walk away with real strategiesyou can apply immediately—because this training is built around your real-world experiences.
We know that library staff often encounter unique challenges that require you to navigate complex interactions. Knowing when and how to respond assertively is nuanced. This training was created with input from librarians and supervisors. It is designed to deal with common yet complex situations you are facing, such as:
Responding to patrons who repeatedly use diminutive language like “honey” or “sweetie” in ways that feel patronizing.
Handling situations where a patron’s demands go beyond what the library staff are able or permitted to provide.
Addressing persistent boundary-pushing behavior from patrons.
Standing firm in the face of anger, disrespect, or refusal to accept a “no.”
